Mary Robinson - in memoriam
Mary Robinson made her ceramic art in the Salty Dog ‘Annex’ from the late 80’s and through much of the 90’s. She did hand-built ceramics in a studio animated by a small flock of Javanese Rice finches, often doing her own takes on pre-Columbian ceramics of Mesoamerica, Kachina Dolls, and Hindu dieties. She had a keen eye for reinterpreting ancient works with attention to just the right amount of detail or simplification. She moved her studio out to Vashon Island in the 90’s and shifted a lot of her focus to growing things on her property while simultaneously continuing her work in clay. Mary passed away last week after a battle with ALS which lasted several years. She’ll be missed by all who knew her.
