The Fortifications of Gubbio
The Fortifications of Gubbio
A painting on glass of studio ephemera in a deep, rich palette. Made for a show in 2019, with an absurdist title meant to evoke De Chirico’s early period. Arcylic and china marker. Painting size 18” wide by 38” tall; including wood frame (painted warm off-white) 21 ½” x 43 ½” tall. Back-painted on vintage window glass set in old craftsman era window, slightly distressed. Braided stainless wire for hanging. Frame depth - 1.5”.
The Fortifications of Gubbio is a painting on glass which was inspired in part by the early works of Giorgio De Chirico, the Italian/Greek surrealist master who occasionally inlcuded the ephemera of the art studio in his works.
Each work is an original, signed piece by myself, although sometimes I do multiples of a particular subject. The dimensions given are the outside dimensions of the frame, which is the painted wood window frame. The look of the frame is intentionally a lightly distressed state. Some side edges show vestiges of the window hardware indents. Frame has been sanded, repainted, and sealed, but again, with some decorative distressing which varies from piece to piece. Ask to see photos of any fine details of the art and/or frame if you would like, just ask via my ‘contact’ page.
All pieces are provided with a braided steel wire for conventional wall hanging and with small felt pads on the bottom corners to protect the wall surface from scuffing.
All pieces in this series will require special packaging for shipping. A quote for insured shipping will be provided on request. Cost varies with size/weight.
