Riven Stump
Riven Stump
A wall sculpture fashioned from salvaged milled wood scraps. This stump features an asymmetrical composition and curved and tapered matte black swath towards the right. The old springboard notch is seen, indicating that this stump was logged before the days of power tools in the hands of Pacific Northwest lumberjacks.
The colors are mostly dark greens, and some bright chartreuse accents to stand for the moss and lichens that grow on the old stump. Venetian red oxide was used for the color of the wet cedar wood. The technique is one that I use frequently now, with subject matter carefully chosen to fit the method and my mind set. This is the second in this new series, all using stump variations. I'm currently working on the third version.
Can be hungering the French cleat that is mounted on the back, or the braided steel wire. A large piece that needs to have ample space around and a plain, light and neutral background. Needs to ship in a crate for proper protection. Cost of crate and shipping is in addition to the cost of the sculpture, as are all the pieces on my gallery page.
