Meliora
The theme I gave to the mural at Meliora is ‘The Enchanted Forest’. The mural bridges the reception and bar sides of the linear restaurant. Once a Medieval English style pub, the remodeled space still retains many elements of that period. With the addition of various trophy heads of wild game, I was prompted to depict a setting where the creatures might have originated, gloving it a storybook or theatrical style.
I added as many details as I could during the time allowed - birds of various sizes, many types of trees, plants, and moss, a rocky outcropping and cliff, a wild hive dangling from a gnarled branch, giant moths, etc.
The location is on the north end of Seattles Capital Hill, with an opening slated for early spring, ‘23. Not open yet at the time of this writing and the photos reflect the fact that this is still a construction site in its final phase.
Roosting Peacock above central doors
A section of the mural extends across four glass doors in the bar
Bared Owl
After having been buzzed by one during a nighttime walk two winters ago, the inclusion of this owl was a must ..
Forest Stag - reception-side panel
The scene as you enter the dining side of the venue, featuring a mature stag surrounded by an owl, oriole, giant moths, etc
Wild Boar - bar-side panel
The opposite side of the previous fin wall shows a wild boar traipsing along a flat rocky outcropping. A wild bee hive sags from the branch above.
Wild Boar - close up shot
The inclusion of the wild boar was prompted by the use of a taxidermic head of a boar that appears on the wall entering the tasting room.
