turtle/hive/flora (painting)
A recently finished piece that attempts to bring together some of the elements that I was working with during spring and summer. The bees are taking a larger role and humans poking out of the pond are taking a break from it all. I think I’d like to see more translucency and perhaps fewer grease pencil marks in the next one. I’m enjoying the more muted palette here and likewise would like to see that evolve to something even more austere. Perhaps that’s tied with the sudden shift in weather here in the Northwest as the seasonal rain moves in.
As with most of the back-painted glass painting I do, this uses a vintage craftsman window frame as the starting point. After trimming down the width of the wood frame, it’s painted in an off white color with the distress surface left largely untouched, which tells the story of its age. Final outside dimensions are 34.5” wide x 19.75” tall with a depth of 1.5”. Hangs by way of conventional braided wire attached to the backside with d-rings. Signed. Appearing in my sites gallery page with a price of $1,200 plus shipping..
