Eros & Dolphin

Part of the Farnese Collection in Naples, this large marble sculpture caught my attention. Much more playful than the rest on display, yet shunted off to one corner. Sensuous and strange, with a touch of modern anime in the handling of the dolphins’ huge eye and surrounding saw blade spikes (eyelashes?).

Anyway, the first of several studies of the piece.

Once I noticed it at the museum, I started seeing variations in many places in my travels in the area. A popular theme.
