Salty Dog Studio - 50th year
The Salty Dog Studio collective has just hit the half century milestone mark. Founded 50 years ago by a group of ceramic fine arts graduates from University of Washington, some of whom have remained working at the same location ever since.
A relative newcomer I’ve had a space here for 41 years. I work on the third floor which was the last space to get cleared out of old bakery equipment, conveyor belts and sacks of vermiculite that previous occupants had left behind. Tonight I have a few paintings and drawings on the main floor but don’t promote this event much as it’s really all about the ceramic work that is produced by about half of the artists here.
The annual holiday sale/house open is tonight, Friday December 6th, starting at 5 pm and going until 9. Our address is 4602 14th Ave NW. Worth seeing as examples of this type of post and timber warehouse building are now extremely rare in greater Seattle. Add to that the artistic encrustation of 50 years, the freshly minted creamic-ware and a few refreshments and it makes for a worthy holiday stop to start your weekend.
Also open on the following Saturday and Sunday during regular business hours.
