Meliora - The Enchanted Forest (interior mural)

Meliora -Enchanted Forest: Stag side view: R Williamson, acrylic on wall 2/23

Although the venue seems to be at least a month away from opening, the mural work that I’ve done for Meliora is essentially complete. I took a tack that is a bit Childrens Theater set meets Benozzo Gozzoli for this one.

The star characters, stag and boar, were selected for inclusion based on the trophy heads that will be appearing in the lounge area soon. I wasn’t thrilled about the presence of the boar but came to like him by the end of the project.

Meliora -Enchanted Forest: Peacock in soffit: R Williamson, acrylic on wall 2/23

This is the sort of thing that can be elaborated on endlessly, heaping on new details and finding new places to tuck small hidden creatures. Not shown here are all the birds that escape out of the woods and into the blank sky on the right side of the soffit. I just couldn’t get off a good shot of that part, for now.

Meliora -Enchanted Forest: Owl detail: R Williamson, acrylic on wall 2/23

The details aren’t about highly laborious brushwork but more to do with a swift economic handling. That said this still took me a couple of weeks on site to complete.

Meliora is located on 15th Ave on Capital Hill in Seattle and features a long bar, lounge area, tasting room with timber vaulted ceiling and a large dining area on the south side. The location was once the Canterbury Ale House for 40 plus years and still has a few remnants of that era, from a suit of armor to some stained glass. Expect an eclectic menu of Continental inspired cuisine, or so I’ve been told. Hopefully by late March, ‘23 this will be open.
