Mason Marcus Turner is a young, upcoming singer/songwriter living in Nashville who I’ve known since he was born. It was a delightful surprise last week when he reached out to invite me to design a cover for his new CD release, … or maybe it’s an online EP or, actually I don’t know how it will be released, only that he needed a visual for ‘Back to Tucson’, a decidedly retro tune that he recently wrote. He had seen some of my digital cactus sketches from a trip to AZ and thought that one of them would work well for the feel he wanted. With some cropping, color adjustments, and a bit of typography it was a quick turnaround for this cover. Even learned how to spell Tucson as part of the deal.

The final look is meant to be a saturated desert twilight with the Barrio Viejo in the background of a cactus. Just a few of the many earlier versions shown below …
