Via Roma - (a new wallcovering)

Via Roma - Burnt Sienna colorway; R Williamson, interior mock-up with wall covering; 10/24

This is a new wall covering design based loosely on the masonry technique of bossage, or in Italian - bugnato. The technique involves the carving and shaping of masonry joints to give a greater dimension to the individual blocks, which are sometimes impressively massive. Various designs can be created in this way.

There is a parallel technique in Italy of using paint to mimic the look of this type of wall when there wasn’t sufficient budget to use real stone blocks. Sometimes it can get quite stylized. That’s the case here with my take on a design I saw on a plastered facade along Via Roma in the historic section of Cuneo. It had been restored to its original design which featured a diamond point version of bugnato rendered in a very graphic dark grey and white (shown below). My version is offered as a wall covering by Greenscenes in 6 colorways.
