The Frosty Barrel
I’ve been in the studio for the past 4 months and painting a graphic mural on the wall of The Frosty Barrel this week was the first on-site work of any consequence during that whole time. This came together quickly for a new business that has put together a novel ice cream and drinks concept. Shawn and Allison Sweeney have already started serving their offerings in front of the store, with the official opening at their first location in Newcastle Commons to happen in late August. (The signature beer and wine pairings and booze infused ice creams will come once the store is opened, for now the pop-up stand in front has ‘regular’ ice cream, cookies and other treats.)
Several mocked-up design were presented and they opted for the one I called, ‘Barrel Mania’, with several stacked rows of barrels seen on edge with background colored circles painted off-register. A smattering of logos on the butt ends and some occasional abbreviated wood grain finishes off the graphic look. All painted by hand using cut stencils to transfer the logotypes to the wall. A combination of Sherwin Williams interior wall paint and Golden fluid artist acrylics were used in executing the design on the wall. Time on site - two full days.
The Frosty Barrel location: 13197 Newcastle Commons Drive, Newcastle, WA 98059. Check their website for hours of operation.
