Laura Brodax, of Modern Glaze in North Seattle/Shoreline, uses her showroom to mount rotating shows primarily of other ceramic artists. For the current one, ‘Modern Salty Glaze’, she invited a group of five of us from the Salty Dog Building to bring some recent work to put on display. A recent move from Fremont to Shoreline finds her in a street side building far out of the fray, or even anything resembling a pedestrian, at 14800 Westminster Way North.

Salty Dog ceramicists in the show are Ernest Hilsenberg, Kathy Bird, Greg Federighi, and Aaron Murray, wide a wide variety of approaches on view. Laura’s work is also on display and demonstrate a wide variety of techniques and scales. Earthenware and porcelain works with layered silk screen glaze designs comprise a large portion of her work.

Note that currently she is only open on Friday and Saturday afternoons, the rest of the time an appointment is necessary (206 949-4007). The opening date came and went without a kick-off event but the current idea is that we’ll be able to have a ‘mid-show’ opening in early July.

The wall space opportunities are modest here. I chose to bring pieces that are part of the rhythm section collages that I’ve done off and on for the past year. This includes one wall sculpture, the kick-pedal shown in the middle picture. While displayed online this spring, this is the first time that I’ve exhibited any of them.
