I did this painting after constructing the wall sculpture version. Paper size forced it into a much more vertical format. I enjoy the back and forth conversations between the constructed and the painted or drawn versions and encourage the interested viewer to compare. The original drawing for the first ‘Riven Stump’ was extremely simple, barely more than an outline.

This was painted on 300lb Arches hot press watercolor paper with watercolor and a bit of gouache. Size: 22 x 30”.
