Peregrinations

Peregrinations (diptych); R Williamson, acrylic and gouache on canvas and molding paste; 12” x 24” long (two 12” squares); 11/24

I had posted the left half of this small diptych early in the month without knowing what the other panel would look like. I ended up making the carried figure a repeated theme in what is otherwise a fantasy based loosely on some of the imagery in the Royal Court Paintings of Jodhpur which toured through Seattle some 15 years ago.

The Indian paintings assembled in a show entitled, ‘Garden & Cosmos’, made a lasting impression, both in terms of the color palette of pinks, greens and grays, as well as the narrative content, populated with armies of monkeys, blue archers, and huts occupied by various sages.

I’m not sure where or even if these fit in with the other work I’m doing, but the small scale of these hand-me-down canvases lent themselves to the subject matter, often presented as miniatures.
