Giant Octopus Sail in Progress

Pausing for a photo about half way through the painting of 10 sail-like shapes for a new interior project. Some, like the one shown here, are quite tall. Too tall to hang vertically in my studio space. This 21 foot piece was painted horizontally to allow me to reach. A more practical approach would be to lay it on a large empty floor and paint it flat like a theater set piece but I have more wall than floor. Gravity is working against me here, as the polyester muslin isn’t sealed or sized, making paint runs a constant hazard. Going for a bit of watercolor look on yet another ocean themed series.

The sails should be hoisted in the coming week with the Mosaic Salon project nearing completion by the end of the month. I’ll be posting shots of the final outcome in the coming weeks.
