Gallery Onyx 'Embrace Equity' Women's Show
Early in the month I got word from neighbor Kubi Thomas that she was taking part in an art show at Gallery Onyx Midtown. I had no idea that she even painted, and had no experience of this gallery. What I found was an engaging show by local women artists of color of all ages in celebration of International Women’s Month (and Day). The gallery itself is comprised of a flexible space within a much large ground floor room occupied by Arte Noir in a brand new complex of buildings at the corner of 23rd Avenue and East Union Street in Seattle.
Besides Kubi’s work, I’m showing here a couple other paintings that caught my eye and thought were noteworthy. The humorous piece below is by an artist who is just 17 years old. There are also some dimensional pieces on display. The show will be up until the closing reception party scheduled for May 12.
