Chair Stack (sumie)
A recent sumie piece as part of a continuing series that started during the Covid shutdown. The suite deals with everyday objects, often piled up and expressed in high-contrast brush work. I enjoy the bold immediacy of these pieces against the softer backgrounds. In this case inspired by a jumbled pile of broken wooden chairs that a studio neighbor, Ernest Hilsenberg, created on the grassy strip next to our studio entrance.
As with the others before, this is done on heavy weight Arches watercolor paper, hot pressed in this case. With a deckled fringe edge on right and left sides. Prints will be available once I’ve put this on my Saatchi Art page.
