Cava Azul

Cava Azul is a soon to open fast casual restaurant in Woodinville, Washington. As focal point of their main dining area, owner Julian Ramos asked me to paint a mural on the tall central wall.

After seeing some of the folk art decor that Julian and his wife had collected in Jalisco, Mexico, it seemed fitting to use a Day of the Dead theme for the wall even though it’s no longer a novel subject. In some ways, this piece reminded me of something that I might have painted 25 years ago, but interest in the Mexican celebration of ancestors seems to continue unabated.

All photos here are before the construction has been completed - light fixtures, banquet seating, etc had not yet arrived. Opening is slated for early June, ‘22.
