A Block Printed Floor for Castilla

A new Bellevue restaurant with a Spanish theme wanted an evocative pattern to be used on the floor, without the expense of using real tile. I carved rubber blocks, 12" square, and printed the pattern on the freshly ground concrete slab.

The design approach was to apply the pattern primarily along edges and in the corners, and to fade it out as it approached the high foot traffic areas. This gives a stylized version of natural wear. Castilla is soon to open in Bellevue Square.
